Our client, James Gunn, is a famous Hollywood script-writer and director. He worked on great films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Tromeo and Juliet, and the most anticipated film of the century, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Gunn made a name for himself in Hollywood, but in a new Twitter Scandal, his whole Reputation was put on the line.
The #MeToo movement arose from the legal system’s systematic failure to protect women in issues regarding sexual harassment and abuse. Through the years, the movement has suffered defeats, but definitely has made some major achievements that have revolutionized modern feminism. The movement has brought down 201 powerful men on sexual assault or abuse charges, and nearly half of their replacements are women. On January 1, 300 actresses, writers, and directors launched the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. This initiative funds legal assistance for those who suffer harassment or abuse at work. Through the years, the movement has helped many suffering women, and these accomplishments would not be possible without the vast support of movement.
Recently, within the past two years, there have been major achievements in the #MeToo Movement. These Achievements have advanced the cause tremendously and are helping make the future more equal and safer for women all over the world.
Since the #MeToo movement started, many men have been convicted because of sexual assault claims by women. Due to this, some men are avoiding spending time with female colleagues in the wake of the movement. Nearly two thirds of men reported they would be uncomfortable taking part in a one-on-one activity with a women. As an effect, women are missing out on mentorship opportunities professional links that could lead to promotion. Thirty six percent of men (out of 5000 U.S. men) reported that they avoided socializing or mentoring a woman due to the fact that they were nervous of how it would appear. Because of the #MeToo movement, women are ultimately missing out on job opportunities because more men are becoming afraid of socializing with female colleagues.
While the #MeToo movement is applicable to the workplace, it is difficult to enforce and discuss such issues in schools. The organization Stop Sexual Assault in Schools has increased pressure on federal, local, and state officials to increase awareness of such issues among students and staff. Title IX of the federal civil rights law established sexual violence as discrimination. Due to this, the law requires that schools take immediate action to eliminate the issue when sexual assault is clear. Not only is the #MeToo relevant in the workplace, but it is also extremely applicable and important in schools.

The #MeToo Movement has shaped the past few years and helped many people to come forward with cases of sexual assault, but there has been many cases where the accused were innocent. Abuse of the #MeToo Movement is dangerous because there is not real proof, there is no real physical proof saying one is guilty. Because of the immense support from the movement, corruption can happen easily.
There are plenty of predators, like Harvey Weinstein, for whom the evidence is compelling, contemptible and overwhelming. But there are also those like Harold Ford Jr. who adamantly denies sexually harassing anyone — yet he was still fired from his job at Morgan Stanley. How does he move on and get his reputation back? It can really throw an obstacle in life for people, even ruin their whole life. It’s good that people are speaking up but there needs to be some sort of evidence.
In December of 2015, three Class II felony charges of aggravated indecent assault were filed against Cosby. Later, Cosby’s trial; ended in mistrial. At retrial, he was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison. Since then, many more male celebrities have been accused of sexual assault and more women have been coming forward and making allegations.
Before allegations came out against Bill Cosby, he was an iconic African-American actor and comedian. This image of him came to an end when he became subject of sexual assault allegations in 2004. These allegations became more publicly known in 2014, after a famous comedian mentioned it in his routine. After this, many more claims were made. This whole situation happened during the #MeToo Movement, so many women stood up against him.
Since the twitter storm and controversies have died down, we can discuss the aftermath of this whole ordeal. Gunn was later, after a few months, hired back at Disney and is now in charge of The Guardians of the Galaxy vol.3, as well as Suicide Squad. So, although his career was close to ending, Gunn is now at the helm of two comic book properties in two different cinematic universes. As comic book fan, Gunn is very happy for about this outcome. Work aside, Gunn was able to find a serious girlfriend in the midst of all controversy and she was able to help him through everything. Gunn also worked on bettering himself as a person.

Let us take a minute to appreciate Dave Bautista. Bautista took to Twitter to in order to fight on behalf of Gunn. Bautista told Disney that he would quit from one of their most profitable properties, Guardians of the Galaxy, and he would get this fellow actors to follow if Gunn was not rehired. He spoke on behalf of Gunn and told the world, although Gunn made mistakes, he was a victim. It is thanks to Bautista that this scandal was able to turn around for Gunn.
Eight to Nine years later, the tweets were resurfaced. The jokes Gunn thought back then were in good fun, are no longer funny, or even tolerated, in today’s Politically-Correct climate. Once the tweets resurfaced, Gunn was fired by Disney by CEO Alan Horn. This is what Horn had to say in response:
“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’s Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,”

Hundreds of people took to Twitter to fight either with or against Gunn. But the damage had already been done. But soon on of his best friends, Dave Bautista would jump in the fight to help out Gunn.
