Legal work with the #MeToo Movement

The #MeToo movement arose from the legal system’s systematic failure to protect women in issues regarding sexual harassment and abuse. Through the years, the movement has suffered defeats, but definitely has made some major achievements that have revolutionized modern feminism. The movement has brought down 201 powerful men on sexual assault or abuse charges, and nearly half of their replacements are women. On January 1, 300 actresses, writers, and directors launched the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. This initiative funds legal assistance for those who suffer harassment or abuse at work. Through the years, the movement has helped many suffering women, and these accomplishments would not be possible without the vast support of movement.

#MeToo In Schools

While the #MeToo movement is applicable to the workplace, it is difficult to enforce and discuss such issues in schools. The organization Stop Sexual Assault in Schools has increased pressure on federal, local, and state officials to increase awareness of such issues among students and staff. Title IX of the federal civil rights law established sexual violence as discrimination. Due to this, the law requires that schools take immediate action to eliminate the issue when sexual assault is clear. Not only is the #MeToo relevant in the workplace, but it is also extremely applicable and important in schools.

Conclusion

As time progresses, we will see more strides and achievements in the #MeToo Movement. But until, we can do our job by showing the public that this behavior is no longer acceptable and that justice will be served to those who do this, just like it was to Bill Crosby and Harvey Weinstein. Also, a lesson can be taught to the younger generation: Be careful what you post on social media. Although James Gunn was able to bounce back from his scandal, that does not mean that everyone will. Looking at these two areas, it is important to make this realization: The world is progressing at an exponentially rate. If you want to survive, and even succeed, you are going to need to progress with it.
